Dear Readers,

This month, we were blessed with the opportunity to take a trip to Costa Rica. We spent three days on the Pacific beach, and three days in the mountains beside Arenal, Costa Rica's active volcano. It was absolutely amazing.

The country is a rich and ardent place. The jungles thrive and everywhere we went it was teaming with energy, from the lush, immense plant life to the beautiful butterflies, the lizards who ran across the water and scurried into bushes at every turn, the birds who called to one another all day long and the monkey families hooting it up in the trees. It's full of life and fertility.

It's a warm, relaxed country. The people walk slowly and smile broadly. Men wink and flirt, and women are comfortable and sexy in their curvy bodies. They tease one another and laugh easily. There seems to be an indulgence in the simple pleasures of life there: good food, a cold beer, a long kiss. Again, the word fertile comes to mind.

It was refreshing to be around women who reveled in their bodies and in themselves as mothers and lovers. Here in the states, we so often live a life of deprivation to keep our bodies looking young, thin and distinctly unmotherly, when in the rest of the world, being motherly and fertile is sexy.

On a similar note, this month marks our ninth month of publication. We've had nine months of publishing the zine, filling it with stories and poetry and art, watching it grow and blossom. We're feeling a bit motherly about the whole thing, and after nine months of gestation, we're hoping the zine will really take off now.

So, we'd like to celebrate fertility and motherhood this month. Let's revel in our sensuality and sexuality as women, and embrace what truly makes us sexy. Like the curvy and beautiful women of Costa Rica, let's kick our shoes off, bare our breasts, take a wink from a stranger as a compliment rather than a creepy innuendo and laugh until our rounded bellies hurt. Read, look, explore and appreciate who you are as a fertile woman!

xoxo
