Nice Girls, Naughty Sex

Contributor Interview: Trish DeVene
Looking for the Wintergreen
by Trish DeVene
What is the inspiration behind "Looking for the Wintergreen"?
I've been a reader my whole life and spent a good portion of my teen years immersed in gothic romances, drawn to the mysterious dark-haired hero, just as the college girl Leah in “Looking for the Wintergreen” is. I was as surprised as she is to find that a real-life person can sometimes be better than what the imagination conjures. And is far more likely to help loneliness heal.
What makes the character(s) in your story nice but naughty?
Leah has had little experience with men, and the little she allowed herself was unsatisfying. She has kept desire buried--just as she buried her sadness over her father leaving, just as their house is buried in winter snow. When she decides to unleash that desire, it's with a houseguest and stranger, one quick moment of passion, guided by lust alone, outdoors beyond her family's house.
If you could have sex with any famous character, (fictional or not, living or not), who would it be and why?
I was going to leave this question blank because for once in my life I'm not interested in any famous character. I've had crushes ranging from Tolkien's Aragorn to Joyce's Stephen Dedalus to Adrienne Jones's angel Shep. But currently, I'm in love with my own new character and only want sex with him. Except, I've yet to make him famous!

What does your mother think about your writing erotica?
I was always a quiet person, hesitant to express too much of myself. But my mom knew me well, and she would probably smile, if she were still around, and say that, finally, I'm coming out of my shell.
