A Review of Eco-Sex: Go Green Between the Sheets and Make Your Love Life Sustainable
By Stefanie Iris-Weiss

Sex Book Review by Roxanne Rhoads

Everyone’s doing it…going green that it is.

You can green your food, your shopping, your transportation choices and more, but did you know that you can green your sex life?

That’s right you can have an eco-friendly sex life.

And you can learn how to do this in the new book by Stephanie Iris Weiss, Eco-Sex: Go Green Between the Sheets and Make Your Love Life Sustainable.

Weiss starts out with green dating tips, advice, ideas and eco-regulations, moves onto green cosmetics and body products, heads on over to eco-fashion, then moves on to sexy eco-licious aphrodisiacs.

She gets off to a great start, I do love some of the yummy food she recommends along with the delicious recipes. I am such a fan of vanilla I am going to have to try the Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette (page 77).

Chapter 5 goes into eco-gifts and discusses responsible shopping for everything from chocolate to diamonds. Chapter 6 asks whether you should trust pharmaceuticals or go all natural when it comes to your health and sexuality. That idea continues on the birth control front in Chapter 7. Did you know pills and condoms may be good for controlling unwanted pregnancies and the spread of STDs but not so good for the environment? Weiss offers some eco-solutions.

Part III of Eco-Sex delves into the more intimate parts of being an eco-sexual. Find and keep your love life carbon neutral, where to find the best naughty but “green” adult toys, then on to one of my favorite parts how to go green between the sheets (and sleep on “green” sheets), though I did expect a little more info here. Then there’s the responsible part of green sex everyone needs to be aware of- babies.

Yes, Weiss even delves into the world of green parenting- though honestly I think there’s an abundance of information about green parenting out there that it was not necessary in this book. However it is responsible to remind people that a consequence and result of any type of sex can be children.

All in all Eco-Sex is a good book introducing us to the world of responsible, green, eco-sex but I found the entire book to be lacking in something…oh yeah, the sexiness.

Being green, being an eco-sexual can be a very sexy experience. You are cleaner, healthier, and closer to nature while being more conscious of yourself, your sexuality and the world around you. And that is extremely sexy.

I think Weiss failed to grasp and portray that feeling. The overall effect of this book is rather textbook and not so eco-sensual. I would love to see a more in depth exploration of sex eco-style because come on, if you want people to do something, you have to make it enticing. This book didn’t make the eco-lifestyle choice extremely enticing, there were moments but overall I was a bit disappointed. I expected more.

Maybe the publisher didn’t want her to get too in-depth because they wanted this to be a mainstream “green” book, not necessarily a “sex” book. I think it might sell better if it was more of a sex book and less of a shop here for green stuff list of recommended green products.

If I wasn’t already a green person this book would not have held much interest for me. I requested it because I am a greenie and I am always looking for new ways to implement greener practices into every aspect of my life.

Unfortunately Eco-Sex didn’t tell me a whole lot that I didn’t already know but perhaps for someone new to the green world or someone who is interested in going green, this would be a great introduction or a great hook to get someone to go green (the lure of better sex has made people do many other things).

For someone looking for something more profound….ehhh not so much in this book.
