Dear Readers,

Birth control is such a personal thing for women, and one of the important and not-so-sexy elementsĀ in a healthy sex life. Recently, one O&C editor decided that she was curious as to how her body would act and react sexually without the hormones of the birth control pill flowing through her veins. After 15 years on the pill, I (yes - it was me, Samantha), decided to take the plunge and get a non-hormonal I.U.D. It's already been a month, and already I feel that my sex drive has gone into overdrive! Is it mental, hormonal, or a little bit of both?

We'd like to hear from our readers! What has your experience been on The Pill, in regards to how it affects your sex drive and your sex life? Have you noticed a difference when you're on or off of it? C'mon ladies (and gentlemen), let's dish!

xoxo

Personally i don't think the pill made a difference on my sex drive, i'm just as horny with and without the pill. Mentally and emotionally, the pill has made me calmer, and when the period arrives, i feel as chirpy as a bird, none of the PMS crap anymore! But one noticeable difference from me taking the pill was that my breasts grew from a 32A to a 36B, which naturally made a huge difference on how i feel when wearing a t-shirt, tank top, dress, sex costume, etc. I get more looks and stares now, which is very flattering. Overall, I love the pill. I love it when my partner cums inside of me, I love how the pill makes me feel confident and in control of my body, and plus, i love my new boobies!

I actually went from the I.U.D. to the pill a couple of years ago, and I'm noticing a strange decrease in my sex-drive. I'm usually in overdrive, insatiable, 7x daily and all that, but now it's decreased to 2-3 times daily when I'm with my boyfriend and I only masturbate maybe 3 times a month. I'm not sure if it's the pill or if it's because I'm in a different place in my life. So I am really, really curious about other women's experiences. I'm tempted to ask my doctor to put my I.U.D. back in! Although I will say that my periods are lighter and I have little to no PMS now. Though I didn't get the boob-job benefit that V.C. describes (my sister did though!)

I was on the patch for almost two years and now I'm no longer on it. My sex drive is the exact same as before. The downside to not being on any birth control is the fact that my cramps are worse and a lot more ibprofen has to be taken. Other than that, the same.

Vixie, I know a few who have had a decrease in sex drive from taking the pill. I think a part of it is just a place in their life where they aren't as horny, i suppose eventually we'll all have moments like that, or it could be the pill too. Maybe you should go to the doctor if you think the pill is affecting your mojo, do what's right for you. Hope things go well!

I've tried several different forms of birth control with my boyfriend of seven years, and personally, when I was on the pill, I had problems with getting turned on, getting wet, and achieving climax! The pill was really hard on me, so I got an I.U.D and I've been oh-so-happy ever since. :)

I have the sneaking suspicion that the pill is affecting my sex-drive too. I have an appointment with the ol' gyno this week I'm going to get her opinion on the subject. xoxo JLR

I got on the pill about four months ago and since then, I haven't wanted to have sex AT ALL with my boyfriend of two years. I've been blaming it on the hormones, but reading these comments makes me think that maybe I'm just going through a non-horny time of my life. OR, maybe I'm just not attracted to my b.f. anymore. Gulp.

Hold the press! I've been off the pill for 1 week now thanks to an error at my doc's office. I am HORNY AS HELL!!!!! Now I know that the pill was inhibiting my hyperactive sex drive and making me a lot more normal. I'm going to be asking to be put back on the IUD. I Looooove being horny as hell. This is what's normal for me. Hooray for sex 7 times a day again! :P

Wow Vixie that's really interesting news! I think that it makes sense though. After all biologically speaking our sex drive is meant to make us more receptive to trying to get pregnant. The pill actually tricks the body into thinking it is pregnant, so why bother to have sex? I'm sure the results are different for every woman (some are horny while pregnant but that's a different topic). Interesting interesting...also I had a doc appt this week and the gyno said some women do experience a decreased libido as a result of the pill. Case closed! :P

well i was never on the pill i was on the depo shot and i decided to change to the I.U.D. after 12 years and wow my sex drive went through the roof i want it 2 or 3 times a day now and i don't see me calming down anytime soon and luckly i've got a man that can keep up with me and for some reason i've been getting wetter than ever. so yeah i believe the hormones affect us in a bad way.
